Shifter News!
It's a Papa Clutch Reunion!! Michael Babcock, Mike Baker (A&W owner), and some of the original Hot August Nights organizers and car owners have started a new event called "Rebel Reunion" to give local car enthusiasts an event that's all about FUN (the way H.A.N. was originally intended). It will take place July 29-31, 2010 and will include a concert, car cruises, a poker run, dance contests, drive-in movie (American Graffiti), and of course, the CARS!!
Neal Grows (of Klassic Kruisers) contacted Dave, who in turn contacted all the band members, who in turn all said "Let's do it!". The band retired after 20+ years (see below) in 2007. But this opportunity to get together for just one show, especially for an event like this was just too good to pass up. All the (surviving) members (from 1989) will be there.
The concert will open some time around 6 PM (on Thursday, July 29th) at the Reno A&W with rock-a-billy group "The Golden West Trio". Papa Clutch will come on around 8 PM and play until 10 PM (the latest Reno PD will let us make noise).

Speaking of A&W and the original Shifters, anybody remember this? They sure were a lot younger in 1989!!
Papa Clutch finally retired. Sad news indeed, especially for those of us who have been involved in this for the past two decades. But it's true... After 20+ years playing Rock & Roll in Reno, Papa Clutch & the Shifters retired after their final engagement on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Grand Sierra Resort - a Christmas Party for Scolari's.
Why? Those of you who follow this page may remember in the fall of 2006 we announced that we were taking a 9-month hiatus and would try hitting it hard again in the summer of 2007. Well, we did that, but things never really got rolling again the way we wanted them to. One reason may be that many of us have gotten busier with other things going on in our lives - families, work, church, kids, grandkids, etc. Added to that was the fact that after 20 years the engagements were slowly trickling off to fewer each year. The handwriting was on the wall, and it was just time.
Thank you to all the fans. Deepest thanks from all of us for your support over the years. This experience, as well as many of the contacts and friendships we have made, will stay with us for the rest of our lives.
The future?? As of May 2008, Jerry & Lee continue their countless casuals with many groups around the area. Joseph still has his music ministry at Our Lady of the Snows, as well as recording and selling his personal CD's on the side. Dave continues to play in the worship band at Summit Christian church. Beverly, Joseph & Dave have had discussions about putting together a trio to explore new musical adventures.
HOT OFF THE PRESS!!!! Beverly, Joseph, and Dave have officially formed the new trio! The name of the new group is RoseWood Mac. Watch for them performing around town. They already have a couple gigs booked: June 6 at Tamarack Junction for a graduation party and June 21 for the Washoe County Sheriff's Dept Summer Picnic. The new group's website is now up and running! Go to www.rosewoodmac.com.
You can continue to reach us via email at: (mailbox:dave, domain:papaclutch.com). Sorry, but you'll have to figure that one out (put the '@' between the mailbox name & the domain name) . It's unbelievable how much spam hits the mailbox when I spell it out on this website!
Thanks again for 20 great years!
See you on the flip side,
Dave (Papa)
